Julia Thomas
Julia Thomas came to the USA as an immigrant on January 1, 1988. She is of Chinese descent but was born and raised in Indonesia until she was ten years old. Learning the English language was a struggle at first, but after a few months, she picked it up rather quickly. She moved around a lot due to her parents’ inability in finding work.
Julia’s journey started in Los Angeles, where she stayed with family and friends for just a few months until the money ran out. She and her family then moved to Sioux City, Iowa, so that her father could find work in the trucking business as a driver for a local Asian trucking company. After just eight months, the family had bigger dreams and took the risk to move back to California. This time, they settled in San Francisco.
